Backup Dwarf tutorials
Create new backup schedule
After selection of this wizard option, first page with directory selection will appear. Please select
directory for which you want to have regular backups.
After selecting the Next button, you can choose to include or exclude only selected files based on their
name or extension. For example you might want to include only Microsoft Office documents or exclude
temporary log files.
On the next page, optional date filter will be available. You can choose to archive only files which
are older than a selected date.
You can also choose to archive files larger than a selected value or only those not exceeding a given
size.
You might want to exclude or include files with specific file attributes. Please choose the options
appropriately. Please note to disable this filter you need to choose indetermined state of the
checkboxes. This state is usually marked as a square. If you want to include only files with a specified
attribute set you need to transition the checkbox to the checked state which is presented as
a tick mark. If you want to exclude files with a specified attribute set you need to transition the
checkbox to the unchecked state which is presented as a cleared square.
Then you need to select a backup type. With full backup, application stores all files in the selected
directory each time a backup is scheduled. With incremental backup, only files changed since last backup
run are stored in the archive.
On the next page, you need to provide the following information:
- File name - this is the archive file name including a date pattern. It is recommended to leave a default
date pattern which includes all date fields up to seconds.
- Target directory - this is the directory where backup archives will be stored. This could also be
a FTP path if Target is FTP path option is selected. In this case it is not necessary to provide
ftp:// prefix.
- Target is FTP path - select this option if you want to store your archives on a remote FTP server.
- User name - this is a FTP login name used to connect to FTP server.
- Password - this is a password for the user name given above.
- Test - use this button to verify the FTP connection can be established.
- Compression - simplified compression rate indicator. Choose Zero for no compression and
Maximum for smallest archive sizes.
Then it is necessary to provide backup schedule information.
On the next page you need to provide the name for your configuration. You will then use this name to
load and modify saved backup configurations. By default the name is concluded from the backup file name
without the time stamp pattern.
You will have the opportunity to immediately run the saved backup configuration on the next page. Please
choose the Yes button and press Next to execute it.
If you selected to run the backup now, Backup Dwarf creates the archive and
displays the following status message upon successful completion:
When you click OK you can examine the backup log to see which files have been archived.
Important notice: It is possible that after backup execution, the following message appears:
